Hailing from San Diego, California, Sarra began her professional career in Washington, DC as a legislative aide to Congressman Brian Bilbray R-CA-49. Under Bilbray, Sarra was able to focus on her passion of healthcare and government reform.
After two years with Bilbray, Sarra moved to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) in 1999. Joining the finance department, Dennehy rapidly rose through the ranks and became the manager of the top individual donor fundraising program. She was part of a leadership team that broke fundraising records by planning large-scale and creative events that have now become the standard for the NRCC.
Since being married and having children, Sarra has combined her areas of expertise to benefit the non-profit community. As a member of the Northern New England Down Syndrome Congress (NNEDSC), Dennehy organized the first ever Buddy Walk in 2002 to create awareness of people with Down syndrome. In just its second year, Sarra led the Buddy Walk to new heights increasing fundraising for the event by 280% to $28,000 and growing attendance by 350% to 525 people.
Symbolic of her success, Sarra was elected President of NNEDSC and is actively pursuing other fundraising projects to benefit children and adults with Down syndrome. Under her leadership, the organization continues to grow and has developed a new goal of building funding for more medical research.
Sarra recently participated in the prestigious leadership program that teaches parents of children with disabilities how to become successful advocates. Consequently, she has become a resource in New Hampshire for parents of newborns with developmental disabilities.
Sarra received her BA in Political Science from the University of San Diego and lives in Concord, New Hampshire with her husband, Michael, their sons Liam and Aidan, and daughter Molly.
